This 140 year old treasured family Christmas card inspired our latest Christmas gingerbread band. It was sent to ‘dear little Daisy’, a great aunt, in the 1880s, and the children’s clothes are all finished with tiny pieces of velvet.
Throughout the Christmas period, we add these seasonal bands to our original and gluten free gingerbread trays. Photographs in our online shop do not show these bands.

New Gingerbread Book
Horsham Gingerbread is featured in a brand new book about gingerbread by Sam Bilton. Sam is a Food Historian, Writer and Cook who grew up in Horsham. First Catch Your Gingerbread is her first book and charts this history of this confection from its ancient origins right up to the present day. The book also contains over 80 recipes for different gingerbread cakes, biscuits, desserts and savoury dishes.
Bakehouse HQ Happenings
Our feathered gang is now larger than ever, with the addition during the summer of a mother call duck with two babies, two young bantams, and three very sweet pekin bantams. Unfortunately, we are currently getting no eggs. We have had so much moulting, with feathers everywhere, that our neighbour was concerned we had had a fox attack!
The ducklings used to be so small that they could swim in a dog bowl full of water – not so cute now they are fully grown!
Improvements to our Online Shop
Some of you may have noticed our new look online shop, particularly with regards to our checkout, which should now offer a much smoother purchasing experience
We have also added a few new features:
- Advance orders for Christmas/ Birthday gifts can be placed
- Hand written cards with your messages can be included
- A Subscription service is available for regular deliveries to you or another person (can be cancelled at any time)
